Problem Statement

In my previous work experience, I primarily focused on e-commerce and dashboard design. These projects typically involved creating clean, straightforward, and functional designs that prioritized usability and simplicity. Transitioning to the Mighty Survivor Force project posed a significant challenge for me. Unlike my past projects, this game required dynamic and visually engaging UI/UX designs that could capture the excitement and complexity of a survival shooter game. I had to adapt to the demands of a more interactive and aesthetically rich design environment, which was a stark contrast to my earlier work. This project required me to step out of my comfort zone and prove my ability to design for a completely different type of user experience.

Experience Throughout the Project

Working on the Mighty Survivor Force project provided me with invaluable learning experiences. I gained a deep understanding of game design principles, which are quite different from the principles used in e-commerce and dashboard design. I learned how to create engaging and interactive UI elements that enhance the player’s experience. Additionally, I had the opportunity to observe and collaborate with developers who were using Unity, a popular game development platform. This exposure allowed me to understand the technical aspects of game development, including how my designs were integrated into the game and the challenges developers faced during the process. This collaboration improved my ability to create designs that were not only visually appealing but also technically feasible and optimized for performance.

UX Laws Applied

In the Mighty Survivor Force project, I applied several design principles to enhance the user experience, with two major laws being Fitts' Law and the Goal Gradient Effect.

  1. Fitts' Law: Fitts' Law states that the time required to move to a target area is a function of the distance to the target and the size of the target. To make navigation more intuitive and efficient, I applied Fitts' Law to the navigation bar, which includes the "Heroes," "Home," and "Upgrade" buttons. By ensuring these buttons were large and easily accessible, I minimized the time and effort needed for users to switch between pages. This improvement in navigation helped maintain a smooth and enjoyable gameplay experience.

  2. Goal Gradient Effect: The Goal Gradient Effect suggests that people are more motivated to complete a task as they get closer to achieving their goal. I utilized this principle in the map section of the game. By designing the map to visually represent progress and the rewards of unlocking new levels and abilities, I created a sense of anticipation and excitement for players. This strategy encouraged users to continue playing and strive to unlock all levels and abilities, enhancing player engagement and retention.
